Check and see if there is a local chapter of the AMA, the Academy of Model Aeronautics. They might have a flight field close to where you live. For info check their webpage. Just search "academy of model aeronautics".

Maybe through the forum.FlightTest.com site you can hook up with some local enthusiasts.

There is an app called Air Aware. Pilot Institute, Aloft, B4UFLY(I think FAA) collaboration that provides real time info on where you can fly. Locally I just fly on private property (mine and a neighbor's) with the owner's permission. So far, no restrictions for flying at local sports fields if no organized activities are happening. Nice place to learn. Grassy fields that are mowed make for soft crashing and easy finding of a downed Neo. Plus minimal obstacles to hit. Easy to survey for those obstacles. Most of our county forestry land is open to "drones". Most the land around here is county forestry, National Forests, or National Park lands. NO go over national park, state parks, wildlife areas....

Take the TRUST "exam" and carry with you certificate of proof that you passed. Required in the USA even for flying sub 250gm drones. Local, state, federal law enforcement can request you show proof of certification. TRUST tutorial, exam is free and available online through different organization. AMA, Pilot Institute... FAA has jurisdiction over all outdoors airspace. Even on your own private property.

In the future if you plan to fly 250gm or heavier you will need to register with the FAA. Proof of passing the TRUST exam is required. The UAS needs to be registered. UAS over 249gm require a RID. DJI builds in RIDs to most of their current models. I think the DJI FPV, aka flying potato does not have a built in RID.

All this just for recreational "fun" flying. Make a penny off any service or video requires Part 107 certifications.
