We have global warming in Europe. Today is 10°C, feels like spring... Snow only on mountain tops. I took the drones out for a little flyingWay back in post #52 I was testing my LED Landing Light with Direction Track from the front in a snow covered environment in cloudy conditions. This past week I was finally able to test Direction Track from the side in cloudy conditions on a snow covered lake.
Initially I set the Neo to Far | Flat | Video and had it track me from the side as I snowshoed across the lake but the Neo moved to the back and began tracking from there instead. I stopped it and set it to Medium | Flat | Video and tried again and this time it worked and it tracked me quite well as I snowshoed. It kept tracking even as I turned toward the treeline. I was quite pleased as the snow had very little texture to it (see photo). I swapped batteries and turned around and headed back with the same settings but this time the Neo behaved as if it was unable find a textured surface and was becoming erratic so I landed. When I checked the LED Landing Light I noticed that they were noticeably dimmer even though the unit was fully charged before I started.
The LED Light basically lasted one Neo battery and likely the cold (-3ºC) and the units small battery contributed to the rapid discharge making it useless after one Neo battery in the cold weather. Regardless, I was quite surprised how well it worked at compensating for the lack of a well defined textured surface.

I’ll try to put a short clip together of the snowshoe/Direction Track.Didn't happen if there's no video, Chris![]()

And how do you get the guts to walk out over that lake? Given my ignorance living in the Santa Cruz, CA area where our main concern is the height of the surf, I'm guessing y'all experienced northerners know the ice thickness somehow, but the idea gives me the willies!

I really like flying using the MC3 and Goggles 3. It creates a much different feel than flying with a RC2 or RC-N3. I must admit that I hated it at first using the MC3 but now when flying FPV it’s the one I like to grab first. All depends on where I am. Lots of fun and I have a much easier time flying around birds and keeping up using a MC3. I also use the tracking modes a lot. Awesome tech. One of these days I’ll jump into flying in Manual mode as I do have a FPV3 controller as well.We have hit 64° F and I took the Neo 2 out for a quick flight. Much too breezy right now, might go out again when the winds die down a bit.
I have flown the Neo 2 in autonomous mode, with my phone only, with the RC-N3 with phone and tablet, but I most enjoy flying FPV with the Goggle N3 and the Motion Controller. I feel that I have the best control of the drone this way. I have mild tremors and sometimes using the sticks, I just don't feel that safe and in control.
