Hello all,
I'm traveling from Europe to the US next year for a road trip from LA to Monument Valley. I'm interested in filming some views during my trip. I know that flying in Monument Valley is not permitted, and flying without an RC controller is not allowed but aside from that, is there anything else I need to be aware of before I leave?
Do I need to register my drone?
Should I submit any flight reports in a US-based app?
Should i register with FAA ?
Should i add RID module?

We (US citizens) don't have to register the NEO with the FAA as a recreational flyer since it is under 250 grams.

I'm guessing you wouldn't have to.

RID is not required.

You should take the TRUST test and keep a copy with you when you fly.
It's a free no fail test that covers the basics of flying a drone.

You should download the FAA app to help assist navigating the air space and ask for permission if near airports.

Other members may pop in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Enjoy your visit to the States. :)

Take the TRUST exam/tutorial. Proof of certification is required if law enforcement requests to "legally" fly any UAS in FAA controlled air space. Which is basically anyplace but indoors in the USA. Download the free Air Aware app to check where you launch from and fly in has no restrictions. Some restricted areas are more or less permanent. Others can be temporary. As far as I am aware of. Recreational UAS use is not allowed in National Parks, Seashore, Lakeshores, and probably monument areas.

And don't be "Like that Guy". Seems like routinely on the Pilot Institute Weekly News roundup there is some fool that is "That Guy". Just gives the "Stefaniks" more ammo for anti-drone legislation.

Hello, I´m from the EU too. First, there are very important regulations in the European countries too.
In order to fly legally, you have to do the followings:
1. you should register yourself as a drone operator at EASA (air trafic control) in Greece You can do it online, please google, what is it called. (this is a must, because, the drone is equipped with camera)
2. You should find online a company, that makes insurance for drones. You should have valid insurance (not a big deal, I pay €40 per year and it covers all my drones.)
3. Not required, but highly recommended to make the A1/A3 online test and have the certification. (over 250g drones e.g. Avata 2 is required) The test is free and not that difficult.

If you travel abroad e.g. to the U.S. print out the documentation what you receive from the insurance company.

Good luck and have fun
