Neo hovers too high after a programed flight

I have discovered that my Neo, upon returning to me after after a boomerang or circle flight, hovers too high for me to reach it (almost 3m, or about 9 feet above the ground). I know I can switch to manual on the app to lower it, but I shouldn't have to do this. Interestingly, this problem doesn't happen when using the droney or helix mode.
