Neo flyaway into a lake

Even as the Neo can be flown independently without connection to your phone, you will need the Fly app at least for changing parameters and installing updates. And I am quite sure this will not work if the Neo is not bound to you account.

Updates I only install if an issue or no option. So far, no issues with either the Avata2 or Neo. Needed to update the hardware to fly the Neo in October. As long as no account log in is required to keep flying I'm at this point good.

DJI shut down the support for flight log info in the USA back I think in late September or early October. Took a look at the files stored. Last one was late Sept. No big deal. Just was interesting to see the flight path and other data. Guessing it was preemptive move by DJI to assure certain legislators and groups that DJI was not collecting data. Bit silly. We let a surveillance ballon fly over USA airspace that was probably collecting data. In the USA restricted air space is over most of our sensitive areas. Again guessing that satellites are acquiring more info than our dji drones are able to.

Worst case no more FPV. Not the end of the world. Just an end of a casual hobby. But, the consequences for commercial operators and safety services will be significant. Locally commercial drone are used in the timber industry for scaling, mapping, surveying. Saves time and money.

This is my understanding as well.
You can’t even request a new drone unless you do a fly away report in which case the drone becomes inactive and will not be able to be reactivated again by anyone. I received my new Neo and I’m gonna stay away from water it’s just not worth it. It’s a great little drone that I use more than I use my Avada 2 at this point

Wonder in a worse case scenario. The USA banning DJI. Not only import but flying. Inactivation of all DJI drones sold in the USA by DJI a possible result of the no fly ban if it happens?

I suppose it could happen if tensions between the two countries got to that point.

I'm not concerned one tiny infinitesimal bit the existing drones in the US will be grounded.
Similar feeling from a different perspective. What happens tomorrow happens. No big deal if DJI is banned at any level. Other options if needing a FPV fix. Personal $s spent is relatively small. Friend is postponing his purchase of a Mavic 3 Pro and Pro Rc kit. Not willing to risk at this time to purchase a ~$4000 brick. For now just be content with his Mini4 Pro setup.

Never really understood or even knew about this DJI system of needing to occasionally log into your account to keep your quads "activated". Guessing it would be a relatively easy way of shutting down DJI quads in the USA. Just shut down access to DJI. Be interesting if the USA bans TicTock how they prevent access. Maybe the same way they could shut down DJI.
