Is NEO the new Mini?

I'm flying the Neo with the RCN3 and holy cow it is so much fun. I keep pushing the distance more and more everyday. I want to venture out further than the battery will allow me hence the want for a mini. Maybe I'll just wait for DJI to come out with a bigger battery...fingers crossed.
I agree that the NEO is a lot of fun. I've set the maximum distance at 1 km but the actual flight was 3.45 km for 14 minutes on March 17. Note that I was flying on fumes as I kept the NEO from auto-landing on my snow covered lawn instead of the deck 20 m away.

Wow, 3.45km and 14min - you are brave! I average about 11-12min but I usually land with just under 30% battery left. To get to 3.45km you must have had a day with virtually no wind because my NEO will give me wind warnings in conditions where my other drones do not.

Do you have Goggles and a Motion controller? The NEO is definitely a lot of fun but can also get some pretty good photos and video when used in the right conditions.

I did a flight last night, first with my M3P at distance then I drove to the construction happening just down the street and up close with my Neo. The Neo does open many more ways of flying as I almost flew thru the concrete tubes that were waiting to be installed but didn't as I was more interested to what they were doing construction wise. Amazing little drone. It doesn't attract the same attention that the larger drones do when flying. I do have the goggles and MC3 but not that good at it yet. I used my RC2 for control last night for my flight.

I too had the opportunity to fly through some concrete tubes but by the time the weather was nice enough, they put a fence around the construction site to keep people like me from (exploring) trespassing. :)

I was curious what effect, if any, the Rebar in the concrete would have on the NEO flying through it.

Not based on what a friend who flies the Mini 4 Pro noted. He thinks it more for people like me who like to crash:).
He can care less about immersive flying. He is just into video capture. Sounds like the MP4 has a better camera system for higher quality images. Personally just needing a quality goggle image. I don't see any real significant view difference between the Avata2 and Neo. Some noted the Avata2 has the equivalent to 04Pro and the Neo the 04"lite".

Our fly on the frozen surface of L. Superior was short lived. Total of 4 sessions. Better than none as in the past few years. 3 Neo sessions. Bit too windy for the Neo required flying the Avata2 once. Flying Neo in manual mode in windy conditions can be at times "interesting". Bit sensitive to gusts and "kiting" when pushed by a strong tailwind. Personally I find it easier to fly into a strong headwind. Which is a good thing. Just need to deal with the wind pushing the Neo downwards if pitched too far forward. Switched to N mode too far from the landing pad and made little if any headway one session. Back to M mode until real close the landing pad.

Yesterday was the first Neo session at the sport fields in town. Just a light 5-7kt (F2, light breeze) with an occasional gust to 10-11kts. Fooled around for awhile just trying to hover in one spot ~ 3 meters off the ground while in manual mode. Neo is sensitive enough to the breeze that it was difficult to maintain a set altitude and level horizon without some lateral drift from the cross wind.

Baseball team showed up for practice. Packed up after 3 battery M mode session. Flying at home is basically flying in the woods. Only open area are either the driveway, trail flying or in and around garden trellis, fruit trees, berry bushes.... Broke out the MC3 for the first time since???? Back to my initial impression. Slow response. Lost the "feel" of the MC3. Ended up flying one battery in S mode with the trigger at max speed for 50-90% of the time. Did crash. Hit a common mullein stalk. Another walk of shame. Broke out the FPV RC3 for the remaining two batteries. Few close moments, but no crashing.

I'm not brave at all. You should know that the last minutes of flight were close to home over the frozen lake. I get wind warnings all the time.
200 ft seems to be the threshold of change here. As soon as I clear the land mass altitude, the wind velocity change is significant. That's why I normally try to fly it no higher than that.
edit: I don't have goggles but looking into it. I'm already deep over budget with the Neo and the Mavic Air 3S plus all the whatnot's.
