NEO range extension with wifi repeater

Hi,

Previously tellopilots will remember, that it is possible to increase the range of flying by adding a repeater to the connection between phone and drone which are connecting through Wifi.

As NEO has the same capability to connect device via WiFi.

Has anyone tried to add a repeater and what was the result?

I have an extra xiaomi wifi repeater, I can do some tests but was first curious about anybody has done it already?

I am not sure why you would want to increase the range with a repeater. With a compatible controller, the NEO has a range of 7km in ideal conditions, but with the small battery I would imagine the range would be much less in realistic conditions.

If you are thinking about using just the phone only for control and then using a repeater to increase range similar to what many Tello pilots do, I don't think this is possible as DJI limits the height and distance in software (or firmware?) when connected to just the phone. For this to be possible I would imagine that DJI would have to release the SDK (unlikely) and third party developers would have to allow this in their flight app.

You could ask your question over at the TelloPilots forum and see if volate!lo who developed TelloFpv has any ideas on whether this is possible.

Also, there's no RTH when controlling from the phone via wifi. Lose the signal, and it lands, IIRC. And maybe you lose the Neo.

I wouldn't do it. Get a compatible RC if you really want to fly it.

I got my fpv remote and goggles now and be able to fly as enough lengths

As you told that height and distance while wifi controlling is limited by firmware, so even though it is possible to link a a repeater and increase the range, it is likely to hit that firmware barrier.

So until next time, I am flying with goggles
