The weather here has cooled down, and I decided to go flying. It had been awhile since I flown the Neo, so I plugged in the charger and as is my customary procedure, I asked Alexa for the current windspeed. "She" replied 5mph. Not ideal for the Neo, but OK. When the batteries were all charged, I drove to a local park. With lots of trees around, I noticed their movement, but it wasn't bad. Up went the Neo and as soon as it cleared the trees, I got the warning WINDY CONDITIONS, Return to Home may not work, or words to that effect. 5 mph indeed! Well alright then, I'll just come back down.....

Ha ha, said Mother Nature, you'll do nothing of the sort! My attempts to land were thwarted by the wind trying to blow poor little Neo into the trees. In addition, it couldn't keep up with the wind, and was steadily being sent eastward, away from me and the park and into a neighboring residential area. Oh, and I kept losing the signal, during which time the drone was simply driven further and faster away by the wind. Even my attempts to land ANYWHERE were canceled out by the on again / off signal loss. My last communication said the Neo was 70 some feet off the ground and doing a forced landing because of loss of power (obviously the struggle went on for some time). The screen indicated it was a bit over 2200 feet away, well outside the park. I was quite a ways inside the park, which meant if I wanted to drive, I would have go all the way to the park exit, then double back outside the park to find the drone. Fortuitously, next to the parking area was a open gate on a path that led outside the park. So with "Find My Drone" activated, I began hoofing it.

A little over half way there, I was passed by a jogger. Seeing the RC 2 in my hand, he made an educated guess: "Flying a drone?" "Not any more!" I replied. He laughed and wished me luck. "FMD" was amazing. At the exact location indicated on the screen, I found little Neo sitting on the grass, no worse for the wear.

So went the saga of my first lost drone. Props to DJI for the Find My Drone program! I worked wonderfully. Alexa on the other hand can go pound sand...
