I’m going to France and although I know that Paris is basically a no-fly zone I will be going to some other areas including Normandy. I’ve ruled out bringing my Avata2 but I’d like to hear from people who have gone traveling and taken their Neo with them. What recommendations etc. do you have?

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama USA, welcome to the forum! We look forward to hearing from you!

I would investigate the areas that your going that will allow you to fly to see if its worth while.

I’m hoping someone here has been to France with their drone

Regulations are identical within all EU countries. You will need an operator ID, which must also be attached to the drone and is assigned by the national aviation authority upon request, as well as drone liability insurance. It makes no difference whether the drone is a Neo or an Avata 2, as both have a valid EU certificate (C0 or C1).

Must correct myself:
In case of a C1 drone you will also need the A1/A3 pilots certificate in any EU country.
